Cases of word usage

1) the system of weights used, before metrication, in most English-speaking countries (1 pound = 16 ounces), used for all goods except precious metals and stones, and medicines (avoirdupois)

2) any sort of drink except water, e.g. milk, tea, wine, beer (beverage)

3) the total value of everything except one variable (coefficient)

4) all the people working a boat, ship or plane; all these except the officers (crew)

5) an island (not much used except in names) (isle)

6) of the second of two people, things etc; different from; except (other)

7) an animal like a frog that lives on land except when breeding (toad)
