Cases of word usage

1) a story or description in which characters symbolize ideas such as patients, Purity and Truth usually to teach a moral lesson (allegory)

2) a short statement expressing a general truth (usually from a known literary work) (aphorism)

3) to feel sure of the truth of (something, that a person is honest etc) (believe)

4) to state, show, the truth of (opinions, feelings etc) (confirm)

5) to deny the truth of (something said or written, a person who has given a decision etc) (contradict)

6) (an instance of) the use of less exact but less harsh words or phrases in place of words required by truth or accuracy (euphemism)

7) an example; fact or occasion etc supporting a general truth (instance)

8) an old story handed down from the past, especially one of doubtful truth (legend)

9) the teaching and belief that a knowledge of God and of real truth can be obtained through prayer and meditation (mysticism)

10) statement that seems to say something opposite to common sense or the truth but that may be true, e.g. 'More haste, less speed', i.e. if you hurry too much, you may find you take longer (paradox)
