Cases of word usage

1) a person who fights as a soldier (combatant)

2) a soldier using big guns (gunner)

3) (in history) a soldier honoured for his courage; a man who has been given as honorary title (below w lord) as a reward for services to the State or to a political party (knight)

4) working only for money or power; a soldier paid to serve in a foreign army (mercenary)

5) an upright length of wood or metal supporting or marking something; a job; a place where a soldier is (to be) on duty; a system of collecting, sorting and delivering letters, parcels etc (post)

6) of, for the use of, concerning, one person or group, not people in general; a soldier with the lowest rank in the army (private)

7) (also called 'a play on words') a humorous use of words which sound the same or of two meanings of the same word, e.g. 'The soldier laid down his arms' (pun)

8) a soldier keeping a watch or guard (sentry)
