Cases of word usage

1) (of people, living creatures etc) belonging to, existing in, a region from earliest times, or from the time when the region was first known (aboriginal)

2) a word formed from the (usually) first letters of other words, e.g. NATO (acronym)

3) the repetition of the first sound or letter in a succession of words, e.g. safe and sound; through thick and thin (alliteration)

4) the first letter (A) in the Greek alphabet (alpha)

5) (of two kinds of things) first one and then the other (alternate)

6) to take the first action, do the first part (begin)

7) to cook (meat) slowly, first in fat and then in a little water (braise)

8) (to have) the first meal of the day (breakfast)

9) a person, team, animal etc taking the first place in a competition (champion)

10) (something shaped like) the curve of the moon in the first quarter (especially a row of houses) (crescent)
