Cases of word usage

1) to cup (something) into two (with a blow from a heavy axe etc) (cleave)

2) a short-handle axe (hatchet)

3) to cut down (a tree etc), e.g. with an axe (hew)

4) the long handle of an axe or other tool; a long bar joining parts of a machine; one of the pair of bars (wooden poles) between which a horse pulls a cart etc (shaft)
